All-rounder Chamika Karunaratne of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team performed a “Nagin Dance” on September 1 to commemorate his team’s victory over Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the crucial Asia Cup 2022 match.
At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the fifth match of the Asia Cup 2022 featured the Bangladesh National Cricket Team under Shakib Al Hasan and the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team under Dasun Shanaka.
The teams had a verbal exchange prior to the game because the Sri Lankan captain claimed that Bangladesh only had Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman as world-class bowlers.
The Sri Lankan captain’s statement did not sit well with Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud, who claimed that Sri Lanka’s lineup lacked any elite bowlers when he was questioned about it during a press conference.
In the elimination game, the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team won the toss and decided to field first. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38), Mahmudullah (27), Afif Hossain (39) and Mosaddek Hossain all contributed well to Bangladesh’s first-innings score of 183/7. (24).
Asitha Fernando’s crucial 10 runs helped Sri Lanka win the nail-biting match by 2 wickets and become the third team, after Afghanistan and India, to qualify for the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022. Sri Lanka needed 8 runs off the final over to win the match. Additionally, this was the Asia Cup T20’s highest-scoring chase ever.

Notably, Chamika Karunaratne of Sri Lanka celebrated his victory over Bangladesh by performing the Nagin Dance as perfect retaliation after four long years. Players on the Bangladesh National Cricket Team performed the Nagin Dance in 2018 to celebrate eliminating Sri Lanka from the Nidahas Trophy.
