Punjab Kings (PBKS) with 160 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, managed to beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) who made 157 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
The season for the PBKS team ended on a high note, with a thumping 5 wicket win against the SRH team.
Instead of Kane Williamson, Bhuvaneshwar was the captain for the SRH team, won the toss and elected to bat. Harpret Brar managed to dent their innings by taking the wickets of Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, and also Aiden Markram. With a score of 99 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, scoring even 150 runs seem to be a daunting task for the SRH team.
The sedate start of the SRH team
Abhishek and Priyam Garg, the openers of the SRH team, were seen struggling to force the pace on this used pitch. The first 2 over’s, only 9 runs were made, and soon Garg and Mayank Agrawal were dismissed. At the end of 4 over’s, saw the SRH team with a score of 24 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. The 6th over by Nathan Ellis managed to produce 11 runs, with Abhishek hitting a 4 and Tripathi hitting a 6.
Washington and Shepherd lift up the SRH team
Washington and Shepherd seemed to start slowly. Shepherd made only a single run in 5 balls and Washington made 3 runs off 7 balls. It was in the 17th over the floodgates opened up. This duo managed to make 17 runs off Ellis. This was with 2 fours and 1 six.
PBKS tees off
Bairstow seemed to be all charged up for hitting every ball for a boundary. He hit 5 fours in the first 2 overs. Soon his luck seemed to have given up on him. He was dismissed when he tried hitting Fazalhuq Farooqi.
Shahrukh Khan came at number 3. He managed to hit Fazalhuq Farooqi and also Bhuvneshwar. Shikhar Dhawan, who was slow and had managed to hit 12 runs off 11 balls, managed to hit 6’s back-to-back.
Livingstone finished off soon
Shahrukh tried hitting Malik also, but holed out after 2 balls. Agarwal, at No. 4, managed to cop a ‘blow’ to his rib cage and in the following over he was dismissed.
Next came Livingstone. He managed to ‘thump’ successive 6’s off the bowling of Mallik. Dhawan, at the opposite end, seemed to be struggling and finally was dismissed by Farooqi after making 32 runs off 39 balls.
Off the first 5 balls of Jitesh Sharma Livingstone managed to hit 3 fours and a six. After which Suchith got him caught.
After 14 overs, the PBKS team needed 25 runs from 36 balls. Livingstone seemed to be in a hurry and was assisted with the ‘sloppy’ fielding of the SRH team. He managed to hit Shepherd for 2 sixes and 2 fours in the 15th over of 23 runs. This sealed the game.
Throughout the innings the PBKS seemed to bat in the fifth gear.
