Siraj, du Plessis work their magic in RCB win

Royal Challengers Bangalore 174 for 4 (Du Plessis 84, Kohli 59, Brar 2-31) beat Punjab Kings 150 (Prabhsimran 46, Jitesh 41, Siraj 4-21) by 24 runs

Despite nursing a bruised rib, Faf du Plessis notched up a remarkable 84 off just 56 balls on a sluggish Mohali pitch to lead Royal Challengers Bangalore to a total of 174 for 4 in their latest IPL 2023 match. The Impact Player rule made it possible for du Plessis to participate, and he took full advantage of the opportunity. After his impressive innings, du Plessis rested in the dugout while Mohammed Siraj delivered an outstanding performance in both the powerplay and the death overs to secure the win for his team.

In their latest match, the Royal Challengers Bangalore were sitting comfortably at 137 for 0 after 16 overs, but then struggled to score, managing only 37 runs and losing four wickets in the last four overs. Nevertheless, their dominant performance in both the batting and bowling powerplay helped them hold off the Punjab Kings and secure a victory. This win was a welcome boost to their campaign after a narrow defeat against the Chennai Super Kings at home.

Prabhsimran missed out on a half-century by just four runs before being dismissed by Hasaranga, who then went on to stump Shahrukh in the very next over. However, Jitesh provided a glimmer of hope for Punjab Kings with some impressive big hits. He first carved Vyshak over extra-cover and then smashed a massive straight six to keep his team in the game. With three wickets in hand and 37 runs required off the remaining 24 balls, the situation looked tough for PBKS. Adding to their challenge was the fact that Siraj still had one over left to bowl.

Siraj bosses the powerplay once again

Siraj continued his impressive form by getting Taide out with some late inswing, and then went on to challenge Livingstone’s lbw decision. The umpire did not give it out, prompting Kohli to call for a review after a lengthy discussion with Siraj and DK. The review showed that the impact was indeed in line, and the ball would have hit the top of leg stump, confirming the dismissal. This was Siraj’s sixth wicket in the powerplay this season, making him the leading wicket-taker in the first six overs of the IPL 2023. No other bowler has picked up more wickets in this phase of the tournament so far.
