IPL 2022 Match 22

Chennai Super Kings registered their first win when they played against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the D Y Patil Stadium yesterday. The Kings beat the Challengers by 23 runs after scoring a massive 216 for 4. The Challengers were 193 for 9 at the end of the session.

Faf du Plessis came up against his former team, and when asked during the toss, said its like playing brothers. But it was Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube who held the reigns against the Challengers when they scored 156 off the last 10 overs. The two reminded viewers of the old times, smashing 17 sixes between themselves in the innings. Both, Dube and Uthappa posted their best IPL scores yet. The Royal Challengers, on the other hand, caused worry even though they were 50 for 4 and 146 for 8. It was after Dinesh Kartik got out when 46 needed of 17 that the tides seemed to turn.

A slow start

Ruturaj Gaikwad lost his wicket to Hazlewood and Moeen Ali was run out by Suyash Prabhudessai. The Kings were at 36 for 2 during the seventh over. Even Uthappa was at 23 off 22 balls at the end of 10 overs.

Hasaranga was brought in late, in the 11th over, and was immediately hit for a six and a four by Dube. Left-arm spinner Shahbaz wasn’t spared either when he was hit for a six in the 12th over. In came Maxwell, who was hit for three sixes by Uthappa in the 13th over. The Kings spared no mistake, when every error was hit for runs. Even when Uthappa was caught towards the end of over 17, Siraj had overstepped the crease. Hazlewood conceded 12 and 15 towards the end while Siraj conceded 18 runs off his final over. The Kings scored 13, 13, and 14 off Hasaranga. Uthappa scored 88 while Dube ended up with a massive 95 runs haul.

The Challengers’ start

The Challengers usually start slow, setting themselves up for speed during the middle and death overs. This didn’t work however, with a massive 217 needed to win. Theekshana begin the third over when du Plessis decided to take a chance and was caught at long-on. Kohli was also caught when he tried to hit against Mukesh Choudhary. The powerplay ended with Theekshana getting Rawat with an lbw. Ravindra Jadega got Maxwell for the 7th time, out of which 5 were bowled.

Prabhu Dessai and Shahbaz contributed with a 60-run partnership, with Prabhudessai showing off some great reverse-sweep and ramp shots. Theekshana managed to take Prabhu Desai and Shahbaz, but Karthik was dropped by Choudhary, after which he gave the Kings a bout of restlessness. Choudhary was given the 17th over, something Karthik used to his advantage. He scored 23 off the over, after which the Challengers needed just 48. In the 19th over, Bravo made Karthik hit a shot towards the leg-side boundary only to be caught. The Challengers ended up with 193 at the end of 20 overs.
