Conor McGregor is set to make his highly anticipated UFC return after once again agreeing to take up the role as coach on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). McGregor will coach against and later face No.5-ranked lightweight Michael Chandler.

It won’t be the first time the Irishman has featured on TUF, as he led a team of European competitors throughout the show in TUF 22. ‘The Notorious’ coached against featherweight veteran Uriah Faber in 2015, but the pair were never booked to face one another.

During the show, Conor McGregor was often credited for his coaching ability and insight into the fight game whilst working with his team.

This was highlighted in a clip that’s been doing the rounds on Twitter, which shows the Dublin-born fighter offering unique words of wisdom to Team McGregor:

“MMA gloves, gumshields, t-shirts off. That’s it, no shin pads, no nothing. I think this type of training right now is something we should do the most. It’s what you’re going to experience when you’re in there. The bare body, the gloves, no shin pads, it’s good for the mind this one. You can feel what it’s going to feel like when you’re in there, without damaging the body… I think this way of training you can find the shot clean and it will make your shots more accurate.”

Dustin Poirier gives his prediction for Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler

After Dana White dropped the bombshell that Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will be coaching on TUF and facing one another, fighters and fans have been trying to predict the outcome.

That includes Dustin Poirier, who expects ‘The Notorious’ to finish ‘Iron’ if he returns to the cage with the same speed and timing he had before his injury. ‘The Diamond’ is in the unique position of having fought and defeated both men, meaning his insight may be right on the money.

Speaking with former octagon referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy, the Louisana native said:

“Either guy can win. I think if Conor comes back with the same timing and speed he had before the injury, if he comes back to that, he’s gonna stop Chandler. Chandler’s very hittable. Conor McGregor’s a guy when you’re in front of him, it looks like he can’t touch you but he touches you. He’s longer than he looks when he’s in there. He uses his length, speed, and timing really well to close that distance, and Chandler’s a guy who needs explosive movements to get in and out. If Conor’s timing’s the same, I think he hurts Chandler.”
