The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with 163 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, were defeated by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who made a score of 181 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

Josh Hazelwood and Faf du Plessis have managed to put the RCB team in the top two. Shahbaz Ahmad and Glenn Maxwell played equally important roles in the’ victory.

Faf du Plessis managed to equal his ‘highest’ score in the IPL with a superb paced innings of 96 runs from 64 balls. The RCB team was able to overcome the 2 wicket loss in the 1st over of the match, posting a competitive total of 181 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

The LSG team managed 42 runs in 28 balls from Krunal Pandya, but lost wickets at frequent intervals that led to the loss.

Kohli and the ‘unwanted’ century

Chameera was on a hat trick by the time the 1st over of the match was over. This was due to the early scalps of Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat. Kohli came to the crease after the 1st five deliveries, in which Rawat had managed to lump through the line for a 4 and scuffed a full length ball to a ‘diving’ Rahul. After one ball, there was a stunned silence in the stadium when Chameera managed to drag back a ‘hard’ length when Kohli took the bait and managed to give up his wicket.

Du Plessis, on the other end, had to yet face a ball. He was all set to make the required amends.

Du Plessis accelerates the game

Plessis managed a ‘perfectly’ paced knock except that he could not manage the century. He stayed composed throughout the powerplay and accelerated from the time he hit a 6 off Ravi Bishnoi in the 14th over.

Till that time he had made 43 runs from 38 balls with 6 boundaries. After this, du Plessis hit 53 runs off 26 balls which included 5 more fours and a 6 off Krunal Pandya. The score of the RCB team rose from 62 runs for the loss of 4 wickets to a target of 182 runs.

The finish

Facing the 1st ball of the 19th over, with requirement of 34 runs for the LSG team, Stonis managed to feint to the off-side. Hazelwood saw this and made sure to spear his delivery wider. The bowler was given the benefit of doubt by the umpire. After a ball, Stonis seem to explode and the chase went up in smoke. Again he moved across to the off-side but seemed to over compensate and was bowled.

This contest proved the ability of the RCB team in winking out the key wickets at ‘key’ moments.

Harshal managed to ‘see-off’ KL Rahul for a mere 30 runs. The pursuit was kept on track by Krunal for some time but with Maxwell returning in his 2nd over, the LSG team had too much ‘catching up’ to do.
