SRH and MI began their IPL 2023 season on a rough patch, losing their first two matches and putting themselves in a precarious position. However, they have managed to turn their fortunes around to some extent, winning their next two games and heading into this match with a two-game winning streak each.
Hyderabad managed to secure victories against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), while Mumbai chased down targets against Delhi Capitals (DC) and KKR to win their last two games. These victories have slightly improved their respective net run rates, but there is still much work to be done as the league phase continues.
Interestingly, both SRH and MI have only had one Player of the Match award winner each, with Shikhar Dhawan and Venkatesh Iyer earning the accolade for their batting performances despite being on the losing side for PBKS and KKR, respectively.
The recent head-to-head record between the two teams is relatively even, with Hyderabad winning two of their last five meetings against MI. However, it is noteworthy that the team batting first has emerged victorious in four out of these five matches, which is unusual in modern-day T20 cricket.
